Got a Cookie Cutter Website?
How to Deal with a Templated or TurnKey Website with Given Content Did you buy a website template that gave you custom real estate information on buyers, sellers, relocation, etc…? Did you know that 500+ other people have that same website? What do you do about it? Did you know that it will eventually hurt your rankings? When you first buy a website, many website companies, like Point2Agent, Cevado, AdvancedAccess, Z57, and others will give you basic content to get you started. They need to offer their agents some form of fully integrated website for agents that just need a basic website. So now you have bought that website… GREAT! I don't have to change the content! It's all there for the clients to read if they need to. BUT unless you CHANGE that content, Google will come back and realize, "Hey, this is the same as Bob in Nebraska, and Carol in Mississippi, and Doug in Washington." And the air will start to deflate out of the first gust your site might have gotten from the search engines. So what do you do???? RE-WRITE IT ALL!! Yup – I mean ALL of it. It's fine to have those pages, but you must make them your own if you expect to stand out from the billion other websites with the same generic content. How do you do this? Take each sentence and put it into your own words. Throw in a keyword or two. (We already discussed how to naturally add keywords to your content). This is where this is vital! Always add in your area information on every page! And do this over time! This doesn't have to be done immediately… Don't freak out if you realize, "OH MY WORD! I have had the same content for a year that I had when I started!" It's ok. Do one page at a time and let Google index it. Change the keywords and meta tags for the page to reflect what it is you are talking about. Then move onto the next. Give something for Google to come back to again and again…

When I read this on ActiveRain it prompted me to go back and rewrite several pages on my site. I’ve already seen a bump in traffic. Thanks again for the reminder. Oh, and nice looking site!
Thanks Rich! Glad you are seeing more traffic! Let’s hope they turn into leads!
