Do Static Websites Get Enough Attention?

With blogs everywhere… and I mean EVERYWHERE can static websites get indexed anymore? Blogging is certainly the way to go but with so many static websites and pages out there will they still make an impact in how people find your page or your site?

It's no secret that blogs do get indexed fairly quickly but that doesn't mean just any blog. I have been blogging on blogspot (blogger) and posterous for a while now and in searching for my blog down to the exact title it still doesn't come up on the firs 5 pages. And this is even after a month or more. You would think it would get cached fairly quickly being a blog but just because you have a blog doesn't mean everyone is instantly going to find your page or your site.

The idea is to find a site or style of site that is going to get cached. AND – this doesn't have to even be a blog! If you have a reputable website that's been around a while you may be getting better indexing than you think. There may not be a need to convert to a blog style site like WordPress if you get the results you want. Take one of our clients in the home inspection industry in Dayton Ohio. They have a static site and yet everyone of their pages is properly optimized and has appropriate long-tail titles for easy navigation. BUT – you also need to check your pages on a regular basis… you could be the expert in a page entitled: "Can you perform your own home inspection in Ohio" and be no where or if you check and you are #4 on Google, you know your site is being indexed well.  If you can't find your specific title in detail on the first few pages after a month it may be time to either get a new site or move on from the blogging platform you have been using.

Many static sites can rank very well for long-tail searches such as our Better Homes and Garden Real Estate Professional in Las Vegas. Las Vegas has such a high competition that it may be impossible to compete with other bloggers and agents that have been doing it a lot time but you can compete on the long-tail search phrases. These folks are #2 for phrases such as "Avoid foreclosure of your Las Vegas real estate" and other similar key phrases such as "Las Vegas real estate listing commissions" This may seem like a long shot but remember you want actual leads not just a bunch of numbers that don't ever call you.

I work with blogs and static pages and sites all the time and have seen similar results from static and blog sites. Some blogging sites like the real estate site ActiveRain can produce results very quickly, sometimes in as little as 5 minutes. While WordPress sites in general seem to be the best blogging platform for quick indexing others like Posterous and Blogger just don't get the index juices flowing like they should.

So what's a blogger or webmaster to do? Find what works. You must regularly check your pages to see if they are coming up in the Google search pages. If you can't find a pretty detailed title of a blog or page from somewhere then it may just not be getting the index and back links you really want.
